This is too school for cool.

I love cosplayers and wish I had a great costume of my own…I just don’t know what it would be.

The institution of education has been in trouble for a long time.

Note the images of school from Pink Floyd’s rock opera The Wall (1979) in this mashup from Waxaudio. More than three decades later, and we are more locked into the industrial model than ever before. Current policies work to enforce production line thinking — ideas that were seen as pointless and harmful 30 years ago.

Note also that the combination of the two songs and videos — The Beegees’ Staying Alive” (1977) from the Saturday Night Fever sound track with Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall” — merges to form a new idea expressed from a pair of iconic video performances.

How do we teach kids what they need to know in order to understand this? How do we teach adults, for that matter? What do we teach them? Can we teach them what they need to know in order to break free of the production line mentality? Is that something that’s “allowed?”

Technology, Education, Culture

So it seems I’m going to be using this place for my class, too.

This could work out nicely.

As much as I like my own spaces, there are facilities here that I don’t get from a stand alone wordpress …

Carla René has a lovely book out called The Gaslight Journal and has been wrestling with a new design. I’m a “minimalist” kind of guy and thought something like this might work.
I’m not sure she agrees. :)

Theresa M. Moore…

…asked me to not presume to design her covers for her and asked me to take them down.

I have.

Good luck, Ms. Moore.

Cover You
I originally replaced the font because I thought it wasn’t beefy enough to stand up to thumbnailing, but after playing with it for awhile, I thought perhaps I had been hasty.
Changes:
Removed the tag line to simplify the design
Scaled up the woman’s face and moved it to the upper right third.
Scaled the title down so it doesn’t crowd the edge of the frame.
Collected the text elements in the bottom third.

Did it help?

Cover Me.
Morgan Gallagher had a problem when her cover artist became ill at the last minute. In the last 24 hours she’s come up with this on.
I’m liking it a lot, but as an ebook cover, I think it has a few problems that keep it from having the kind of effect it might.
